Use SimSolid with SolidWorks
Use the SimSolid add-in for data integration with SolidWorks.
-
Start SolidWorks and make sure the SimSolid add-in is activated.
Figure 1. -
Use one of the following methods to initiate data integration:
- In the SimSolid add-in tab, click
(Open in SimSolid). This will launch SimSolid from within SolidWorks and pass the active design model through the shared memory pipe.
Tip: This is best when running SimSolid and SolidWorks on the same computer. - In the SimSolid add-in tab, click
(Export to File). This integrates the data from SolidWorks using a SimSolid formatted file (<file name>.SSJ).
Tip: This is best when passing data between two machines/physical locations.
Note: Only active SolidWorks geometry is passed to SimSolid. Hidden, suppressed or lightweight geometry will not be included. - In the SimSolid add-in tab, click
- Optional:
If necessary, edit faceting parameters to control tesselation by doing one of
the following:
- In the Resolution menu, choose, Standard, Enhanced, orFine. The values will automatically populate the Angular deviation and Chordal deviation fields.
- In the Resolution menu, choose Custom. Then, enter the desired values in the Angular deviation and Chordal deviation fields.
Note: As a best practice, start with Standard and refine only as required to capture geometry curvature. Setting these values smaller will increase the analysis solution time.
