Workspace

The Inspire workspace includes the ribbon, modeling window, legend, model browser, property editor, and status bar.

The Inspire workspace is organized into the following areas:
  • The ribbon includes both menus and ribbon tabs with icon groups.
  • The modeling window is where you interact with your model, and includes the view controls in the lower left corner.
  • The legend displays parts by color-coded categories and allows you to hide and isolate them.
  • The model browser shows all of the objects in your model in a tree structure.
  • The property editor shows all of the properties of a selected object and allows you to edit them.
  • The status bar displays model status information and includes the snaps filter and unit system selector.
Tip: While hidden by default, the Model Browser and Property Editor can be opened by pressing F2 and F3 respectively.

Customize the Workspace

Change the appearance of the workspace including the color scheme, language, and various elements of the user interface.

Use the Workspace category in the Preferences to change the appearance of the user interface, including the color scheme (theme) and language. You can also decide whether to turn off the splash screen, icon labels, workflow help, user interface scaling, and other options.
  1. Select the File menu.
  2. Click the Preferences button.
  3. Select Workspace and change the settings as desired.
  4. Click OK.

Customize the Ribbon

Create one or more custom tabs on the ribbon and populate them with your favorite tools.

The Home icon group appears on every custom tab and cannot be deleted.
  1. Click the icon on the ribbon to create a custom tab.
  2. Drag icons from the standard tabs to the custom tab. If an icon contains multiple tools, all of the tools on the icon are copied to the custom tab.
    You can rename or delete the custom tab by right-clicking the tab name, and then selecting Rename or Delete. To delete multiple custom tabs simultaneously, right-click empty space on the ribbon, select Delete Custom Pages, select the tab names, and then click Delete.
  3. Organize the tools on the custom ribbon.
    • To move an icon, drag the icon.
    • To rename an icon, right-click the icon, select Rename, and then type the new name.
    • To delete an icon, right-click the icon, and then select Delete.
  4. To export a custom tab, right-click the tab name, and then select Export. To export multiple custom tabs simultaneously, right-click empty space on the ribbon, select Export Custom Pages, select the tab names, and then click Export.
    The custom tabs are exported as an .xml file.
To import a custom tab, right-click empty space on the ribbon, select Import Custom Pages, and then select the file.

Customize Keyboard Shortcuts

Assign custom keyboard shortcuts to specific functions in the Preferences.

Note that some keyboard shortcuts cannot be reassigned.
  1. Select the File menu.
  2. Click the Preferences button to open the Preferences window.
  3. Select Keyboard Shortcuts.
  4. Click on the value for a command to change the assigned keyboard shortcut.
  5. Click OK.
