Damping

In LS-DYNA, damping entities define damping applied on the parts and nodes in case of *DAMPING_GLOBAL. In Radioss, damping entities used to set Rayleigh mass and stiffness damping coefficients are applied to a set of nodes used to stabilize the results.

LS-DYNA Cards

Card Description
*DAMPING_FREQUENCY_RANGE Provides approximately constant damping over a range of frequencies and applies damping to global motion.
*DAMPING_FREQUENCY_RANGE_DEFORM Provides approximately constant damping over a range of frequencies and applies damping to element deformation.
*DAMPING_GLOBAL Define mass weighted nodal damping that applies globally to the nodes of deformable bodies and to the mass center of the rigid bodies.
*DAMPING_PART_MASS Define mass weighted damping by part ID.
*DAMPING_PART_MASS_SET Define mass weighted damping by part set ID.
*DAMPING_PART_STIFFNESS Assign Rayleigh stiffness damping coefficient by part ID.
*DAMPING_PART_STIFFNESS_SET Assign Rayleigh stiffness damping coefficient by part set ID.
*DAMPING_RELATIVE Apply damping relative to the motion of a rigid body.

Radioss Cards

Card Description
/DAMP Define the Rayleigh mass and stiffness damping coefficients applied to a set of nodes.
/DAMP/INTER Apply Rayleigh damping to the nodes inside of specified contact to increase its stability and reduce results scattering due to small variations of initial or boundary conditions.
